This week I used to be fortunate sufficient to revisit Earth Eternal, the independent browser-primarily based sport that features a future dominated by animals. For a very long time, gamers feared that its current disappearance meant the tip of the game. Then, we have been advised that a foreign company bought it and planned on revamping it and returning it to life. I will be trustworthy and say that I by no means thought I might see it happen. So few MMOs, impartial or not, get a second probability at something.
Yet, right here we are. The game has returned. It is in a totally playable state. I used to be so surprised that I did not actually imagine it till I was making a character and coming into the game. A few issues have modified, some have improved and others were worse. Click past the cut. I’ll let you know all about it!
Earth Eternal is set on a future Earth, one that was beat to Hell after the moon determined to split apart and rain down fragments of loss of life. Eventually, and after many pages of fairly intense lore, this event led to the Earth being neon led flex by animal-like creatures. In the old model of the game there were extra race choices throughout character creation. For some reason, many of those lacking races will be present in game as NPCs. I wonder if the new developers are reworking a few of these former playable races just like the bears? My wife loved her bear. Wants it back!)
Last time I rolled with a robotic kind of creature, however this time my new-found love for mice compelled my hand and i rolled a mousey druid. The funny thing is that this “druid” fires a bow, wields a mace and spits out magic often. I’m no purist, but I thought druids used healing or nature magic and usually ran around with twigs and leaves glued to their clothes. While I’m not normally a fan of such gameplay, (I like ranged fight) I determined to take a chance.
The glorious factor about Earth Eternal is that I can simply add on almost any skill available to all the classes. As I degree up and achieve points that I can put towards skills, I merely open the talent trees for the totally different courses and can both choose my native class spells and talents or take an opportunity with lots of the others. For instance, every hero needs to have the ability to heal himself. I was comfortable to see that the basic healing potential was still available in this newer version of the game and bought it at the primary likelihood.
Like I discussed earlier, my character has a number of ranged talents, some druidy shooty powers, and a pleasant heal on top. The game will not be terribly “onerous” so I am capable of solo loads of the time and may heal up between fights. It will be very challenging to determine which talents to pick next. While I’m having fun with the druid skills, I believe I want to study somewhat melee combat first after which take a while to degree them all up. I have at all times beloved enjoying a character who is a jack-of-all-trades, but it’s uncommon to find an MMO that really allows you to do that.
Of course, you may must have a high tolerance for cutesy characters if you want to explore this recreation. Don’t fret, although, as a result of the original developers struck a fairly good balance between cutesy and taking themselves seriously. I have always maintained that it is not the graphics that make a game “silly” but there’s just one thing about sure games that makes them feel much less goofy or over-the-high even whereas that includes cartoony characters or wall waher light outrageous settings. A developer has to put some critical tones into the lore or design or the bright graphics overwhelm everything else. Earth Eternal actually does really feel like a “regular” MMO, and that i take it as critically as I do Lord of the Rings Online or Ryzom. It can be carried out. I wish more games gave us some actual drama like a world changing event or publish-apocalyptic background to go along with their “kiddie” graphics. Perhaps it’s the juxtaposition of the graphics with the tragic story that make it extra enticing to me.
Dungeons come early and sometimes. Are they definitely worth the time and effort? As expected, I found them to be gratifying in a bunch and downright dangerous without one. Also, the longer time required for many dungeon-crawling requires a full group simply to maintain you awake. Sure, led neon flex it’s good to see “actual” dungeons on this open, browser-based world, however they are not something new. This is based on my limited experience with them so far (I went via several in the old version) so it is very possible that they develop into a religious experience at larger levels. There are occasional levers to operate or different items to collect during questing, however basically you’ll spend your time going from one from linear level to the next, killing 10… regardless of the NPC needs you to kill. The grind is very mild, though, and leveling occurs rapidly sufficient that you get to spend numerous time deciding on which talents you will be using. The true fun comes from interacting with the group in the chat, roleplaying, and exploring the little particulars of the world. It’s positively not the deepest sport out there, however the setting, lore and character design are unique sufficient that it keeps your consideration. Also, it is fully free and runs on a basic laptop computer. That scores a variety of factors in my e-book.
In one in all the one actual negatives, the old lag from the unique beta is displaying up often. On occasion you will find yourself standing there waiting for the loot to pop up or for an enemy to fall. They succeeded in defeating that beast before, so here is hoping they can do it again. Also, the NPC voice overs (the occasional “howdy” and other kinds of chatter) are now in a different language than English. While I like the truth that I don’t know what they are saying, a few of you is perhaps turned off by this. All quest text is okay, although, probably because it existed before in English?
Will I continue to play Earth Eternal? I think so. After all, I used to be enjoying it before and can most likely continue to enjoy it. Fans of linear video games like Rift or LotRO understand how easy it’s to “pause” and come back later, and the same is true with Earth Eternal. I do know I’m not being rushed into something. Can take my time with the sport. Its free standing makes it even much less pressured. It is going to stay in my favorites till they close it down once more.
Let’s just hope that is a long time from now.
Next week I will likely be taking a newer, deeper take a look at Free Realms. While I’ve played it off and on since beta, I need to sit down and really notice the way it has modified over time. If you want to add me in game, my character’s identify is Beau Turkey. Now, go log in!
